i is for it’s 24 July, 2008

(insert flying circus music here)

that’s right baby, it’s all about me. then again, isn’t it always…?

there’s not much time for writing lately. i’ve been reading wicked, and this monday night i get to lead a book club discussion about it (yay…). it’s a great book, to be sure, but it’s a very complex book, and rather than read it in little bits and pieces, i like to devote solid hours to fully absorb and digest it. i’ve also picked up persona again…it’s such a good game, despite any corniness depicted in the wikipedia article. i had to stop playing for a while, though…six-hour binges were leaving me with headaches on a daily basis. oh well. :D

but yeah, busy busy. i’ve still got to plan and write the puppet show for next month, as well as a display and activities for banned books week. and, i’ve got to sit down and work out my schedule, because mountain song is coming up (tim o’brien and sam bush on the same stage together is gonna be way fun!!), as is a certain fifth anniversary(!!!), and i’m gonna need to switch around some hours at work so’s i can have time for these super-fun activities.

this morning, though, i have the attention span of a stoat…but, before i wander off, i’d like to just point out something humorous i heard on the news just now: angela merkel was asked about the unwanted shoulder rub she received from bush and how she would react if the same situation happened with obama.

her response: “i would not turn him down.”

hellz yeeeah. obama’s so damn smooth. :D

we did a tie-dye program at the library yesterday afternoon. fifty kids (parents in tow) came out, t-shirts in hand, to create their own colorful works of wearable art. there was much, much fun, and every time i catch a glimpse of the multi-colored freckles and smudges on my hands, toes and shins, i smile.

this afternoon, it was time to rinse out and wash my own creations, a t-shirt and a pair of socks (i have tie-dyed socks! :D ). for the briefest moment, as i stood at the sink wearing my rubber gloves and rinsing funny-colored water down the drain, i really wanted to be a deadhead, living out of my vw bus and selling tie-dye in the parking lots outside concerts.

happy weekend. :D

ask me how much i love my new job.

ASK ME.

omg, i love my new job! granted, it was just the first night, so it was really just hanging out at the circ desk, checking out books, processing magazines and learning all the bits of the computer system that i don’t already know. no more 4+ hours of bending, squatting, lifting, shifting and otherwise manually laboring with the books.

AWESOME.

it’s not all butterflies and unicorns, mind you…i know firsthand how hard it can be to plan out a program, and there are all kinds of budget concerns, and there is the whole deal with working 8:30-5:30 every other saturday (sux0r!). yeah, i had to work every other saturday before, but it was only for 3 hours. but oh well…i have SUPER AWESOME JOB OF SUPER AWESOMENESS, and that’s good enough for me, by golly. :D

also, while we’re on the topics of both super and awesome, this am made of win. the end of part one made my liver quiver…nathan fillion in a tight t-shirt singing superhero songs…IS TOO SEXEH.

and sadly, not the good kind.

no, i am not here to bring the funk. i am here to be in it. i have been in such a funk all morning…despite the awesomeness of new jobitude and happy fun waltzy-type lessons last night, the world is bringing me down. the overwhelming injustice in every corner of the world, combined with the overwhelming realization of just how futile everything is, how completely meaningless we all are in a universe bigger than anyone can fathom…

meep.

sometimes it’s kinda hard to come up for words to go with each letter in this alphabiography, but this morning it’s hard to even get into writing.

oh well. here’s some awesomeness for you.

given my upcoming interview, i had debated writing about employment. or elation, since OMG I’M SO STOKED ABOUT THE POSSIBILITY OF THIS JOB. but as much as i heart the library and my potentially upgraded role therein, there’s a word that starts with e that is much more important to me:

equality. (more…)

sounds of the season 8 July, 2008

Filed under: general chatter, yaay for stuff — freundlyfolk @ 5:06 pm

as usual, the lovely mrs. esmon has something spiffy that i’m gonna lift. the rules are:

List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they’re not any good — but they must be songs you’re really enjoying now, shaping your summer. Post these instructions in your blog along with your seven songs. Then tag seven other people to see what they’re listening to.

but see, here’s the thing…i can’t really narrow it down to just seven. that’s not even a proper soundtrack, that. soundtracks have at least ten songs…not that i’d be able to narrow it down to ten songs either, but my point here is that hawaiian punch is delicious. no wait, that’s not it (although hawaiian punch is indeed delicious).

why don’t we just get to the music? (more…)

d is for… 7 July, 2008

Filed under: confessionals, general chatter — freundlyfolk @ 5:12 pm

d could be for a lot of things.

it could be for days of our lives, a show i began watching with my mom (and her mom) when i was in first grade (or so) and of which, despite a several-year lapse in viewing that started shortly before i entered the army and ended shortly after i quit The Job From Hell, i am still a big fan. call it a guilty pleasure if you want, but i’m cool with it…yeah, i was a little ashamed of picking up the habit again at first, but now i don’t care who knows. yes world, as silly or repetitive or even sometimes downright puerile as the plot(s) may be, i still enjoy keeping tabs on the residents of salem and their twisted but fascinating lives.

and afterlives. i mean, seriously. no less than thirty-six characters on the show have come back from the dead at least once.

(and hey, remember that time marlena got possessed by the devil? good times, man, good times…) (more…)

okay, maybe not. i mean, c can always be for cookie…i do love cookies, especially the chocolately kind (and especially the chocolately chippy kind). but as great as my love for cookies is, and despite the extra me that years of nomming cookies has provided, this post is not about cookies (sorry to disappoint).

no, friends…for now, c is for con leave. (more…)
